Where Long-Distance Moves From the Santa Maria Valley Break Down
Four gaps can lead to change orders or missed delivery windows on a long-distance move:
Missed inventory. Garage shelving, a backyard shed, or patio furniture left off the list adds volume, and added volume changes the scope of the move.
Access surprises. A long carry from the curb, limited truck parking, or low branches and wires over the street change the crew and truck plan.
Shared trailers. A consolidated shipment follows the carrier's route, so your delivery date depends on other customers' stops.
Weight-based quotes. With a non-binding, weight-based quote, the final charge depends on the scale ticket after the mover loads your goods.
The in-home estimate settles inventory, access, and price before loading day, and a dedicated truck removes the shared-trailer problem. Because we gather complete information up front, we rarely need to issue change orders.
In-State or Out-of-State: Which Rules Cover Your Move
A move from the Central Coast to Sacramento, San Diego, or the Bay Area never crosses a state line, so California rules apply. The Bureau of Household Goods and Services issues permits to in-state household movers and enforces Maximum Rate Tariff 4, which sets maximum rates and the rules for moves within California.
A move to Phoenix, Boise, or Dallas falls under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration instead. We hold household goods authority under USDOT 1278931 and MC-497853.
Depending on the route and the service, we may write your estimate as Not-to-Exceed, Binding, or Guaranteed pricing. We generally price long-distance moves at a flat rate, based mainly on the volume of your goods and the distance. We add no fees unless the scope of the move changes.

Long-Distance Moving in Santa Maria, CA: What Every Shipment Includes
Our standard long-distance service is a dedicated shipment. Once we load your belongings, the truck heads to your new address with no stops for other customers' goods.
Guaranteed dates. We guarantee both the pickup and delivery dates, except in circumstances truly outside our control.
Real-time GPS tracking. We track our fleet of more than 20 vehicles by GPS in real time, so you know where your shipment is while it travels.
Complimentary packing for certain items. Wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes, packing for larger wall hangings and table or floor lamps, and protection for flat-screen TVs cost nothing extra on a long-distance move. For the rest of your home, you can add full-service packing.

From the In-Home Estimate to Delivery Day
We suggest scheduling your in-home estimate 30 to 60 days before your target date. A moving consultant reviews your packing needs and any access limits, then gives you a guaranteed estimate on the spot. To keep more dates open, aim to book your service dates at least 30 days before pickup. We can sometimes accommodate short-notice moves, so call the office to check availability.
On loading day, your move supervisor calls ahead, walks through your home with the crew, and protects it before moving any furniture. We disassemble furniture as needed, wrap it in moving blankets, and load it. If your new place isn't ready yet, your shipment can wait in our vault storage, still blanket-wrapped, until you schedule delivery. Interim storage can change the scope of the move, so mention it at the estimate.
At the destination, the supervisor walks your new home with you to learn where each piece belongs. The crew unloads, reassembles furniture, places everything room by room, and does a final walk-through before leaving.

Long-Distance Moving FAQs for Santa Maria Customers
I live in a gated community in Orcutt. What should I tell you before the move?
Tell us about the gate at the estimate. In gated communities such as The Groves at Rice Ranch and Southpoint, we need to arrange access for a full-size moving truck and plan around any HOA rules on truck parking. When you share these details up front, we price them in from the start, so they don't turn into a change order on moving day.
I'm stationed at Vandenberg and have PCS orders. Can ASAP Movers handle the move?
The Department of Defense contracts ASAP Movers to relocate service members and their families, locally and long-distance. The base housing office lists Santa Maria and Lompoc as the towns where most Vandenberg personnel live, and both are in our pickup area. Check with your transportation office first, then call us with your orders and pickup address.
Can ASAP Movers relocate a Santa Maria business to another state?
Yes. Our long-distance service covers business relocations, not just households, and we offer office packing. Schedule an on-site estimate so a consultant can review the furniture, equipment, and files that need to move and price the job before you commit.
Will you transfer my belongings to another moving company?
We don't transfer your shipment to another carrier as part of the normal moving process. Your shipment stays under ASAP's control from loading to delivery. On interstate moves, we may bring in a professional moving crew at the destination to help unload. If you want only ASAP employees on the job from start to finish, ask at the estimate, and we will price that in.
How are my belongings protected on the road?
We provide basic valuation at $0.60 per pound per article at no charge, but it offers limited compensation. We include Full Value Protection with long-distance service at no additional charge. You choose your valuation level at your discretion, in line with the regulations that apply to your move.
